The difference between starting my first draft of my second book versus the first is substantial. When I started writing my first book, I was essentially walking through a pitch black room, finding my way through my wandering aimlessly, feeling my way blindly with my hands.
After endless revisions and incorporating feedback on my first book, I feel so much more equipped to go through this process. This time, it feels more like I am trying to make my way through the same dark room, but this time with a decent flashlight to help guide me. Not a great flashlight, mind you, but like one you’d get at the dollar store and keep somewhere in the house for when the power goes out.
As i go through the process of writing this second book, it will be interesting if I see similar growth into my next book, and so on. Maybe one day, the process will be more akin to flipping a light switch and seeing the whole room at once. Though, I’d settle for slightly stronger flashlights each subsequent time.
